How pleasant. Wtf? Why at this particular moment?

Steps taken as of 8:30 a.m. 25 aug 2010:
- multiple reboots
- two “duplicating…” cycles using the gigabyte raid tool. no joy
- Knoppix 4.? boot. Sees the drive – can’t mount, view or copy files.
- swapping hard drive position – same raid failure messages.
- possibility of “TestDisk” utility from Knoppix distro? some knoppix chatter here: http://www.motherboardpoint.com/gigabyte-ga-ep45-ds3r-v1-0-raid-1-mirrored-failed-t239311.html
- windows 7 recovery?
Some notes from gigabyte raid utility:
- “critical raid 1”
- “remaining members of the failed array”
- st3250310as array0 sata 232.88 mirror
- st3250310as array0 sata 232.88 source
- “the raid 1 array needs to be duplicated to ensure data consistancy.”
- note:
- 1) press esc to exit
- 2) after execute, press tab immediately can (sic) into utility window!
Post rebuild we still get:
“disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter”
10 hour pause. Two clients w/hardware or malware problems today. Do I hear “Gremlins” theme music?
Regained sufficient access to start recovering work files from …\my documents over to a networked dlink folder …\knoppix. Doing a little picking & choosing. Let the dvd fab files go?
