Ereaders & reference materials

Dictionaries, highlights & internet lookups. A brief review – my primary motivations for looking more deeply into ereader & ereader conversion – CPL 3 title reserve cap. 2ndary – seen here – local dictionary & internet (wikipedia or overall internet) for unknown terms. Conveninent.           One more…”Faux”.

This could be an interesting development

Noodling with epub, calibre & kindle (droid)

A bit on the geeky side but not too difficult to get kindle (droid) to let me add an elibre title to library. Some additional reference on elibre & kindle here. Visuals to come. Fyi – mechanics – default “send to device” destination for me is a folder titled “kindle”. Was briefly concerned about “main […]

The settlement in a Facebook privacy case allots nothing to the plaintiffs and about $2.3 million to their lawyers.   From nytimes.com today.

Off topic post via Crain’s & Chicago Tribune. “I guess this is just going to be a city for wealthy people, that’s where we’re headed,” she said. What? There’s no suggestion people aren’t speeding…pretzel logic required to get to “just…wealthy people” statement? My experience – the more expensive the car – the more traffic laws […]

search is not a premium feature

In spite of what feedly says – search is NOT a premium item.             Keeping old reader in back pocket if this gets too annoying.

Opt out follies

An observation on an ongoing silliness among software vendors. A lot of the JAVA NSA roots revolve around “opt out” defaults. Another quarter heard from – adobe flash.     Bloat by default

Um. Yeah.

She observes well. But in other ways, Hillary is not such a natural successor. The Clintons are ends-justify-the-means types with flexible boundaries about right and wrong, while the Obama mystique is the opposite. His White House runs on the idea that if you are virtuous and true and honorable, people will ultimately come to you. […]
